Emirates vs Singapore – Twitter
Blog Post #2
By Manpreet Sharma
EMIRATES AIRLINES
Emirates seems to be quite active on twitter as well
and post once or twice a day on twitter. The number of tweets accounted till
date are 3101 on their official Twitter handle and their followers sum up to
1.09 million.
The content posted on twitter is less similar and more
different to the content on Facebook.
While the Facebook page included more videos of
facilities the posts on twitter include more pictures with popular faces from
various fields and the interesting services provided by crew members on-board.

The reason behind the success of this post is
the popularity of the football club Arsenal. The post talks about the extended
sponsorship for the club.
SINGAPORE AIRLINES
Talking about the Singapore Airlines in terms of
promotion on twitter, is quite impressive because they use unique #HASTAGS such
as #FlySQ and #SingaporeAir. The number of
followers they have got on their account is about 700,000 and the number of
times they have tweeted on twitter is about 50,000 times which makes it clear
that they focus more on using twitter as a promotional tool. The ratio of their
promotion being successful is really low as only few people like or repost their
posts. They joined twitter in February 2011.
They mostly post random pictures asking questions to followers or of
exotic destinations that are covered by the SIA network.

This post was so
successful because the team was able to hit the right chord with the audiences,
it was not a promotion but a general quote. Hence, a wider audience could
connect to it.
The 50/50 rule seems to be
followed more successfully by Emirates Airlines than Singapore Airlines because
they devote a lot more time on promoting their content as compared to SIA.
